Important News on Reclassification of English Learners

Senator Alex Padilla, D-San Fernando Valley, has introduced SB 1108, which requires the California Department of Education to recommend a uniform English Learner reclassification criteria, based on best practices, to the State Board of Education. The bill passed its first hurdle last week with a 5-1 vote in the Senate Education Committee and now goes to the Senate Appropriations Committee.
