Counselor Collaborative Spring 2025: Disability Justice

The Counselor Collaborative is a biannual convening of elementary, middle, and high school counselors and mental health providers. Meetings feature guest speakers and interactive discussions on topics related to advancing the social, emotional, and academic growth of Sonoma County students. The event is hosted by the Behavioral Health & Well-Being department at SCOE.

This spring’s Counselor Collaborative is a full-day event focused on disability justice and is open to all interested UPK/TK-12 school personnel. The day will include two interactive workshops and a panel featuring SRJC students with lived experience to elevate knowledge of disability justice and provide a space to apply this lens to inclusive practices in our schools.

Presentations:

Spill the Disibili-Tea
Alex Locust, MS

Alex draws upon his lived experience, education, and advocacy skills to lead a candid conversation that will explore the following questions:

  • Who is "disabled" and what creates that experience?
  • What is the difference between "access" and "inclusion?"
  • How does disability intersect with other cultural identities?

Panel
